The often told story of Moses and the Hebrews’ bondage and exodus from Egypt is examined today, in light of the supper that Jesus shared with His disciples the night before his crucifixion. The Lord was clear that children of future generations would ask about the meaning of the Passover feast and directed His people to share the story of God’s judgment upon sin and His deliverance of His people. As Israel celebrated looking back, God and His providence were looking ahead to a time when blood would once again deliver His people from bondage. This time through the sacrifice of another unblemished lamb, Jesus Christ. Now we observe the Lord’s supper with the same perspective as the Jews and their Passover, by looking back to the body and blood of our Savior, and doing so, as Christ said, “In remembrance of Me.”
